The newly launched York Region Festival Alliance plans to capitalize on strength in numbers.
A branch of the stalwart York Region Arts Council, the alliance was officially unveiled Tuesday at the region’s administrative centre in Newmarket by Markham-Unionville MPP Michael Chan.
Chan, who also serves as Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, welcomed a packed atrium of dignitaries, tourism, arts and cultural representatives and performers. In addition to provincial greetings, the Minister brought confirmation that the alliance was approved for a multi-year, $322,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to support a York consortium of diverse, multicultural festival organizations.
